Water

Halkirk is a member of the Shirley McClellan Regional Water Services Commission (SMRWSC).  SMRWSC is comprised of 14 municipalities:  Stettler County, Paintearth County, Special Areas, Halkirk, Castor, Coronation, Veteran, Consort, Big Valley, Donalda, White Sands, Rochon Sands, Bawlf, and Rosalind.

Halkirk receives  treated water from the SMRWSC Phase One pipeline that serves Highway 12 communities east of Stettler.   The Village water system operates under a Distribution System Only  License from Alberta Environment.

The Paintearth Halkirk Water Reservoir is a jointly owned municipal co-operation project of the Village of Halkirk and County of Paintearth.  The Village owns 1/3 of the Reservoir.  The County Water Operator serves the Reservoir and the Village’s Water Distribution System.  For Bulk water sales, a Truck Fill is available at the Water Reservoir, at 601 Railway Avenue.  The truck fill is coin-op only.

Sewer

The Village is served by a municipal sewage system. 

Natural Gas

The Village owned Natural Gas system serves the community.  Operation of the Natural Gas system is contracted to Paintearth Gas Co-op.

Waste Services

The Village provides pickup of Household Waste bi-weekly within the Village.  Pickup begins at 8:30 am on Monday and Thursday mornings.  In the event of a Holiday Monday, pickup will be on Tuesday morning.

Halkirk Waste Transfer Station

The Halkirk Waste Transfer Station is operated by Paintearth Regional Waste Management (PRWM), a company formed by the municipalities of County of Paintearth, Town of Castor, Town of Coronation, and Village of Halkirk. Transfer sites  are also located at Castor and Coronation.  To contact PRWM, call the County Office at 403-882-3211. 

Our Transfer Station is located at the west end of Alberta Avenue; turn north into the site.
  • Summer Hours:   Wednesdays from 1 - 7 pm  &  Saturdays from 9 am - 4 pm
  • Winter Hours:   Wednesdays from 1 - 5 pm  &  Saturdays from 9 am - 4 pm

Local residents and business need to show a registration card to use the Transfer Sites. Registration Cards are available at the Waste Transfer Station. Recycling is available at the Transfer Stations for paint, electronics, metal, tires, and Household recycling. Hazardous Wastes are not allowed to be taken to the Waste Transfer Station.  There is a Hazardous Waste Roundup, held by PRWM annually each spring, to collect hazardous wastes from the region.
